JACOB SEARS MEMORIAL LIBRARY
ANNOUNCEMENT OF ANNUAL MEETING

 
In accordance with our Bylaws, the Annual Meeting of the Jacob Sears Memorial Library Corporation is scheduled for Thursday May 25, 2022 at 5:00 pm at the library.  The meeting is open to everyone, but only “qualified voters” may vote on matters on the agenda.  Under the library’s Acts of Incorporation approved by the Massachusetts Legislature, “qualified voters” must be
  • At least 18 years old, and
  • Residents of Quivet Neck for at least one year prior, as reflected in the voter registration rolls of the Town of Dennis
Qualified voters are especially encouraged to attend the meeting.  Those unable to attend may cast proxy ballots in advance at the library. 
 
Planned Agenda:
  • Election of one Trustee for a term of 3 years
  • Election of 5 Advisors for a term of 1 year each
  • Election of a Clerk
  • Librarian’s report
  • Treasurer’s financial report for the library’s previous fiscal year
  • Approval of the Library’s budget for the coming fiscal year
 
Election of Trustee and Advisors
The Trustees intend to nominate a slate of candidates for the Trustee and Advisor positions, as follows:
  • Trustee:  Donald Hunter
  • Board of Advisors:  Thomas Walsh (incumbent), Dyane Cooney (incumbent), Lois Katanik (incumbent), Eli Whitney (incumbent), and William Harpin
  • Clerk:  Barbara Durst
Additional nominations may be made “from the floor” at the Annual Meeting. 
 
Copies of the Treasurer’s Report and Proposed FY24 Budget will be available at the library for review prior to the Annual Meeting.

Author and pop culture historian Marty Gitlin will present the entertaing program based on his book, The Greatest Sitcoms of All Time. The presentation features hilarious snippets of the most beloved sitcoms including I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, The mary Tyler Moore Show, All in the Family, Cheers, Seinfeld and The Big Bang Theory. Marty will discuss how sitcoms have evolved over the decades and will involve the audience with engaging trivia questions. The audience will spend the hour laughing and having a great time!

We Are The Men, the popular all male Cape Cod choir, will return to JSML for a choral concert program of patriotic and popular tunes.  The choir members represent a true cross-section of the Cape.  Besides patriotic songs, their repertoire includes hymns and songs from Ireland and Scotland, sea shanties, spirituals, a little opera, English and American folk songs  All in all, it will be a concert of memorable music to put you in the mood for the July 4th holiday!

Author and pop culture historian Marty Gitlin returns with a presentation about an exciting time in music history.  The program features videos of what many consider tghe finest period in rock-and-roll history, from the birth of the British invasion through the response of wonderful American bands.  Included are footage of live performances from the Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, Mamas and Papas, Simon and Garfunkel, Kinks, Byrds, The Who and more.  Marty Gitlin will also discuss the impact these bands made on society and pop culture, while comparing and contrasting the British and American bands.  Trivia and a question and answer period will be included for a lively and engaging time!
